GRASSFED AND FINISHED TALLOW
Grassfed is an important factor upon choosing a tallow balm simply because grassfed cows are exposed to sunshine all day and allowed to graze a natural, earthy diet. Compared to conventional cows who are forced indoors at close proximity and fed genetically modified feed, these qualities of grassfed cows result in cows who have accessed the proper aliments to retain the necessary nutrients from the sun and earth. This natural grazing process results in suet that is rich with vitamins, minerals, and fats, a perfect source for tallow skincare. Earth-Side Organic's tallow is rendered fat from 100% grassfed and finished, pasture raised cows that are non-vaccinated, non-GMO, antibiotic-free, steroid-free, hormone-free, grain-free, soy-free, pesticide-free, herbicide-free, chemical-free and humanely raised.
VITAMINS
Tallow is filled with vitamin A; promotes healthy and younger looking skin and filled with collagen which smooths wrinkles, lightens dark spots, and smooths acne. Vitamin A supports the healthy function of the sebaceous glands which secrete oil relating to the skin.
Vitamin D& E is essentially the shield for your skin; helps repair, protect, and rejuvenate skin; providing immunity allowing skin to repair and rebuild, hold in moisture and prevent environmental damage from radicals such as pollution and other chemicals.
Vitamin K improves skin texture and wound healing and a naturally occurring antioxidant, speeding the recovery process of all punctured skin due to its inflammatory and soothing properties.
B12 or cobalamin is an essential vitamin for cell reproduction and much more; when used topically it is an essential to treat serious and severe skin conditions.
FATTY ACIDS
Tallow is also filled with palmitic acid, creating a smoothing appearance of the skin, improving the skin's barrier and fighting free radical damage. Fatty acids including Alpha Linolenic (omega 3) and Linoleic acid (Omega 6) contribute to fighting and maintaining the structure and function, positively influencing immune responses to the skin's barrier.
Stearic and Oleic Acids, or more commonly known as Omega-9. These acids are present on our skin’s outer layer which soften and moisturize and are also known for their anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties.
Palmitoleic acid or Omega-7 is a building block to our skin and one of the most active anti-microbial in our biome. Palmitic acid has a smoothing effect on the appearance of skin, much like palmitic acid, production of palmitoleic acid declines with age, so the use of tallow encourages anti-aging and is the ideal skincare approach for those maintaining signs of aging.
Tallow also contains cancer fighting conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) a polyunsaturated fat which have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
JOJOBA OIL
Jojoba oil is pressed from the seed of the jojoba plant, a perennial plant naturally inhabiting the deserts of North America . Jojoba is humectant, meaning it retains moisture and by doing so, keeps the skin fully moisturized and preventing bacteria from entering to counter acne, bacterial infections, and dry skin. It is also noncomedogenic, meaning it is less likely to clog your pores due to its botanical composition that is similar to your body's natural oil secretion. Co-occurring it also helps balance oil production, beneficial to those struggling with over production and oily skin. Jojoba oil contains anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties that have been shown to fight a fungal infection caused by yeast called candida, candida being a big influence in severe acne cases. Jojoba oil on severe acne spots where candida growth occurs may prevent growth. Jojoba oil also contains Vitamin E as an antioxidant to free radicals and oxidative stress, along with the faster healing process for wounds, burns, minimization of scaring. Vitamin E production also promotes collagen production to improve elasticity of the skin and slowing signs of aging. Jojoba oil used in E-SO Tallow Balm is expeller-pressed, unrefined, chemical-free non-synthetic, non-GMO, and USDA certified organic.
EMU OIL
Emu oil is derived from the fat of a flightless bird called the emu, indigenous to Australia and cousins with the ostrich. American Emu Association or AEA certification is a program developed to ensure top quality living standards, humanely raised, and industry standards for fully refined grade A emu oil. E-SO products are crafted from, pasture raised and humanely raised emus that are fully refined and processed by AEA certification standards. AEA Certification for emu oil used in E-SO's tallow.
Much like tallow was used conventionally in ancient-European and early Western civilization, emu oil's use has been traced back thousands of years to Australian aboriginal culture. The oil was used holistically and medicinally as bug repellent, pain relief, anti-inflammatory and even as a topical sun barrier. Emu oil is currently used for all of the previously stated, along with pain relief for arthritis, ear inflammation, antispasmodic (IBS) and lowering cholesterol (when used internally) and much more. Emu oil is even said to prevent bone loss when taken with chemotherapy treatment.
Emu oil, much like tallow, may prevent aging, increase healing rate of wounds and scars (ect.), It helps hair and nail growth, decrease inflammation, and much more. Pasture raised emus derive oil that is rich with fatty acids Omega 3, 6, and 9 and antioxidants such as Vitamin A & E; smoothing, repairing, protecting, and replenishing skin, dark spots, aging, acne, (see 'Tallow Ecology' tab for more info on fatty acids and omegas).
